Amethyst, a rare and precious gemstone found in various locations

around the world, is particularly abundant in Brazil. Significant deposits are located in Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul, which are renowned for producing large, high-quality crystals.

Uruguay also boasts substantial amethyst deposits, especially in the Artigas region, known for its deep, rich colours. Zambia is a notable source of amethyst with a unique bluish tint. Other countries with notable amethyst deposits include Madagascar, India, Russia, and the United States, particularly Arizona and North Carolina.

Amethyst has a rich and storied history that spans across cultures and centuries. In ancient Greece and Rome, amethyst was believed to ward off drunkenness and was often carved into drinking vessels or worn as amulets. Its name derives from the Greek word "amethystos," meaning "not intoxicated."

In medieval Europe, amethyst was a symbol of royalty. It was used in the regalia of kings and queens and the adornment of religious artefacts and clergy robes, signifying piety and spiritual wisdom. The stone's protective qualities, believed in ancient times and still cherished today, add to its enduring appeal. The ancient Egyptians also revered the stone and used it in jewellery and burial amulets for protection in the afterlife.

Its captivating color and durability make it a popular choice for necklaces, rings, earrings, and bracelets.  Amethyst gemstones are symbolic of pisces star signs born between 20th February and 20th March as well as those with February birthdays.
